It was a damp drizzly day, but contestants, judges and onlookers alike huddled under the apple tent for a battle of baking. There were children and adults, veterans and rookies, and even a husband and wife pitted against each other …
In 2008 Volante Farms opened its state of the art greenhouse, replacing a line of aging hoop houses with new technology and an easier access for employees and customers. The glass house ushered in a new age of sustainability for the farm, creating a growing space that is more economical, more ecological, and also provides an enhanced beautiful canvas upon which to display our plants.
We grow a majority of our bedding and vegetable plants from seed or cutting in our propagation houses. This allows us access to a huge variety of color and species that you won’t find at the box stores. The cold months of the year are spent tending young seedlings and preparing them for transplant to your garden.
We carry a wide variety of annuals, perennials, vegetables, and shrubs throughout the year. In the spring you find a multitude of vegetable transplants, hanging baskets and flowering annuals for the summer garden. In the summer and fall larger annuals and perennials fill the benches. During the Christmas season, thousands of colorful poinsettias and gift plants are ready for gifting or easy home decorating. Throughout the season we are also growing baby greens here for sale in the farmstand.
